Powerful impact at Bee Creatives Warm Welcome Space

One of the most powerful examples of Bee Creatives’ impact came when a new couple, Fred and his wife Vera, visited Bee Friends for the first time. Fred did most of the talking, gently explaining that Vera had recently been diagnosed with the early stages of dementia. Her doctor had encouraged her to take up knitting again as part of her therapy, but she lacked confidence and hadn’t found the right environment to begin.

Before Fred had even finished speaking, the Bee Creatives team quietly came together. With warmth and genuine compassion, they invited Vera to join their bustling, friendly crafting table. What could have been an overwhelming moment for her instead became an immediate welcome. She sat alongside experienced crafters who guided, encouraged, and supported her without hesitation.

Fred watched this unfold with visible relief. Recognising his own needs as a carer, the group suggested he join the Men’s Table—a relaxed space where retired men chat, laugh, and share practical conversation. What began as a tentative first visit quickly became a weekly routine they both cherish.

Now, when they arrive, Vera is greeted by name and escorted to the table where she feels stimulated, supported, and valued. Fred, reassured and no longer carrying the weight alone, enjoys time with others in a similar stage of life. The couple have since been signposted to the local Memory Café—another meaningful step forward.

This single moment captures everything Bee Creatives embodies: compassion, inclusion, dignity, and the power of community.

Bee Creatives, an integral part of Bee Friends, exemplify compassion, community spirit, and unwavering dedication to supporting those who may otherwise feel overlooked. As an active Warm Welcome Space in Frodsham, the group goes far beyond offering a place to gather; they create an environment where every individual feels valued, included, and genuinely cared for.

Each year, the Bee Creatives team comes together to mark Keeping Warm Day (as part of Warm Welcome Week in January) with remarkable generosity. They knit, crochet, or sew handmade items—hats, scarves, mittens, hot water bottle cosies—for every single visitor who attends Bee Friends. With up to 100 people participating, this is no small undertaking. Their commitment ensures that every person leaves with both a thoughtful gift and the sense that someone has invested time and care into their wellbeing. For many, particularly those who live alone or experience social isolation, this kindness is deeply moving. Visitors often express how seen and appreciated they feel, with some reduced to tears by the warmth and thoughtfulness shown.

Beyond their creative contribution, the atmosphere cultivated by Bee Creatives is extraordinary. Newcomers are welcomed with genuine friendliness, encouraged to sit alongside more experienced crafters, and immediately made to feel part of the group. This spirit of sharing, humour, support, and companionship enriches the experience for everyone involved.

Bee Creatives embody the very best of community dedication. Their consistent kindness, creativity, and commitment to improving the lives of others make them truly deserving of recognition and this award.

Bee Creatives have had an extraordinary impact on guests, volunteers, and their wider community. Their year began with a touching act of kindness when a member brought in 35 unfinished knitted chicks left by her late sister. This simple gesture sparked a beautiful Easter window display in a local coffee shop and ensured every Bee Friends visitor received a handmade chick and chocolate egg—setting the tone for a year of generosity.

Throughout the year, the group have supported multiple charities and community organisations with hundreds of handcrafted items. They have created butterflies and hearts for Brief Lives Remembered, twiddle muffs and mats for the Elton Memory Café, baby clothes and blankets for the Countess of Chester Hospital, and countless crafted items sold to support causes including North West Air Ambulance, Loss of Adult Child Bereavement Group, Helsby Golf Club’s Powered Wheelchair Appeal, and Halton Haven Hospice. Their work extends far beyond crafting—it strengthens vital local networks.

Their community efforts also include the remarkable Poppy Event, featuring over 1,500 poppies attached and displayed for remembrance, drawing admiration and raising funds for the Royal British Legion. Equally meaningful was the Christmas Memory Tree, inviting people to honour loved ones through beautifully crafted remembrance cards.

Yet their greatest impact lies in the friendships, confidence, and emotional support they foster. Bee Creatives is more than a craft group—it is a lifeline, offering connection, purpose, and kindness to all who walk through their door.

Bee Creatives in Frodsham, Cheshire, won the Warmest Welcome Award at the inaugural Warm Welcome Awards in June 2026.
