The Warm Welcome Campaign has welcomed Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ decision to scrap the two-child benefit cap from April, announced in Wednesday’s budget.
The Campaign has also welcomed the Chancellor’s measures to cut £150 from average household fuel bills from April 2026 and to provide an additional £1.5bn in capital investment, through the Warm Homes Plan, to support fuel poor households.
Warm Welcome Campaign Director David Barclay said: “We're particularly pleased about the lifting of the two-child benefit cap because we know families with more than two children face greater levels of poverty and isolation. We recognise, however, that there is more work to be done to lift families out of deep poverty.
“We know the cost of living is still too high for many people, forcing some to choose between heating and eating. Our growing network of almost 6,000 Warm Welcome Spaces gives people a place to go if they face that difficult choice. Warm Welcome Spaces are places of connection and belonging, and provide a vital lifeline for so many people. No matter how the budget affects someone, Warm Welcome Spaces are open and inclusive for everybody in society.”
