Strand Community Centre

Café / Foodbank

The Strand Centre is a community centre on the main high street in Dawlish, run by the Strand Community Trust. The centre comprises the Inspire Café, a large Auditorium, and several smaller rooms. We are a registered Place of Welcome within the community. The centre is a warm space for people to find respite and quiet, as well as to engage with others in the community. There are a series of programmed events, including groups such as a weekly Age Concern UK lunch club, the Men’s Shed, toddler groups, and a group for those with special educational needs. A street chapel is available for those who wish to engage in quiet reflection away from the main centre activities. The manager and volunteers are sensitive to the diverse needs of centre users, and will talk especially with those who are alone to see if they require specific provision or just some friendly conversation and a listening ear. Centre users can stay as long as they like throughout the opening hours with no pressure to purchase food or drinks. Homeless individuals use the centre to obtain respite, receive free refreshments, and receive clothing, bedding and food parcels. Many of our centre users are older people who find comfort and friendship during their regular visits.
